Acceptance of Terms

By installing Kweli from the Chrome Web Store, downloading the extension, or using Kweli in any way, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use Kweli.

These terms apply to all users of Kweli, whether free or paid. By using the extension, you represent that you are at least 13 years old and have the legal right to agree to these terms.

Description of Service

Kweli is a Chrome extension designed to help you fact-check claims quickly and easily. Here's what it does:

How Kweli Works

• Aggregates fact-checks: Kweli retrieves fact-checks from third-party publishers through Google's Fact Check API
• Does not produce verdicts: Kweli does NOT conduct its own fact-checking or generate original conclusions
• Displays aggregated results: We display fact-checks from trusted sources including Reuters, Associated Press, Snopes, PolitiFact, BBC Verify, AFP, and others
• Informational only: Kweli is provided for informational purposes to help you make informed decisions, not as authoritative fact-checking

Available Plans

• Free Trial: 5 fact-checks total
• Basic: $4.99/month, 50 fact-checks per day
• Pro: $9.99/month, 100 fact-checks per day
• Annual: $59.99/year, 1,000 fact-checks per week

User Accounts & License Keys

Account Creation

To access paid plans, you must create a Kweli account using your email address. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activities that occur under your account. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at support@kweli.app.

License Keys

When you purchase a paid plan, you receive a license key that activates premium features on your device. You agree to:

• Use license keys only for your personal use
• Not share, resell, or distribute license keys to others
• Not attempt to reverse-engineer, bypass, or tamper with license key activation
• Accept that we may revoke licenses for violation of these terms or fraudulent activity

Your Responsibilities

You agree that you will:

• Provide accurate information when creating your account
• Update your information if it changes
• Use Kweli only for lawful purposes
• Not use Kweli to harass, harm, or mislead others

Pricing & Payments

Payment Processing

Kweli uses third-party payment processors to handle all payments:

• Gumroad: Processes one-time purchases and certain subscription plans
• Lemon Squeezy: Processes recurring subscriptions and license management

These processors handle your payment information directly. We do not store your credit card details. By purchasing, you agree to the payment processors' terms of service.

Subscription Billing

Monthly and annual subscriptions renew automatically on the date you subscribed. We will charge your payment method on file each billing cycle. Subscriptions will continue until you cancel them. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period.

Refund Policy

We offer a 14-day refund window from the date of purchase for all plans:

• Monthly subscriptions: Full refund if requested within 14 days of purchase
• Annual subscriptions: Full refund if requested within 14 days of purchase
• One-time purchases: Full refund if requested within 14 days of purchase

To request a refund, contact support@kweli.app with your license key or email address. Refunds are processed within 5-7 business days.

Price Changes

We may change our pricing at any time. Price changes will not affect your current subscription, but will apply when you renew or upgrade. We will notify you of material price increases at least 30 days in advance.

Free Tier Limits

The free trial includes 5 fact-checks total. Once used, a paid subscription is required to continue using Kweli. We reserve the right to modify trial limits at any time.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to use Kweli for any unlawful or harmful purposes. Specifically, you agree not to:

• Use Kweli to spread misinformation, disinformation, or deliberately false claims
• Attempt to bypass daily fact-check limits or circumvent subscription features
• Use Kweli as part of an automated system to scrape or bulk-download fact-checks
• Share your license key or account with others
• Use Kweli for commercial purposes without explicit permission
• Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to access Kweli's source code
• Integrate Kweli into other products or services without our consent
• Use Kweli to violate anyone's intellectual property, privacy, or other rights
• Use Kweli in ways that could harm our servers, infrastructure, or service quality
• Harass, threaten, or defame others using information from Kweli

Intellectual Property

Kweli Ownership

Kweli, including its design, functionality, and code, is owned by Kweli and protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. You may use Kweli only as permitted under these terms.

Third-Party Content

Fact-checks displayed by Kweli are owned and created by third-party publishers including Reuters, Associated Press, Snopes, PolitiFact, BBC Verify, AFP, and others. Kweli displays these fact-checks with attribution to their original sources. All intellectual property rights in these fact-checks remain with the original publishers.

Your Content

You retain all rights to any content (such as claims or text) that you provide to Kweli. By using Kweli, you grant us a license to process your content only for the purposes of retrieving and displaying relevant fact-checks.

Copyright Infringement

If you believe Kweli infringes your copyright, please contact us at support@kweli.app with details. We will investigate and take appropriate action.

Disclaimer of Warranties

Specifically, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including:

• Accuracy: Fact-checks come from third-party sources. We do not independently verify their accuracy. Some fact-checks may contain errors, outdated information, or conflicting perspectives.
• Completeness: Kweli may not retrieve all available fact-checks for a given claim. Coverage depends on Google's Fact Check API and varies by topic.
• Reliability: We do not guarantee that Kweli will be available at all times or that it will function without interruption or errors.
• Fitness for Purpose: Kweli is not a replacement for professional fact-checking, journalism, research, or critical thinking. It is a tool for finding information only.
• Legal Advice: Kweli does not provide legal advice. Fact-checks are informational only and should not be relied upon as legal guidance.
• Medical Advice: Kweli does not provide medical advice. Fact-checks about health claims should not replace professional medical consultation.

You are solely responsible for evaluating the quality, accuracy, and usefulness of any information obtained from Kweli. We strongly recommend cross-referencing fact-checks with original sources and using multiple fact-checking services.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Kweli and its creators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to:

• Loss of profits or revenue
• Loss of data or information
• Damage to reputation
• Business interruption
• Reliance on inaccurate fact-checks
• Decisions made based on Kweli results

Some jurisdictions do not allow the limitation of liability for certain damages. In those cases, our liability is limited to the amount you paid for Kweli in the 12 months preceding the claim, or $50 USD, whichever is less.

Termination

Your Right to Terminate

You may stop using Kweli and cancel your subscription at any time. To cancel a subscription, visit your account settings on the payment processor's website or contact support@kweli.app.

Our Right to Terminate

We may suspend or terminate your account or access to Kweli if you:

• Violate these Terms of Service or our Acceptable Use policy
• Engage in fraudulent or illegal activity
• Abuse our service or infrastructure
• Fail to pay subscription fees
• Share your license key with others

When we terminate your access, any unused subscription credits or prepaid fees will be forfeited. We will provide notice of termination where practical.

Effect of Termination

Upon termination, your right to use Kweli ends immediately. All disclaimers, indemnities, and limitations of liability shall survive termination.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms of Service at any time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through the extension at least 30 days before the changes take effect.

Your continued use of Kweli after changes become effective means you accept the updated terms. If you do not agree with any changes, you must stop using Kweli and cancel any paid subscriptions.

We will always maintain a "Last updated" date at the top of this page so you know when we last modified these terms.

Dispute Resolution

Binding Arbitration

You and Kweli agree that any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms or the use of Kweli shall be settled by binding arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) under its Consumer Arbitration Rules. This means you waive your right to go to court and have a judge or jury decide your case.

The arbitration will be conducted on an individual basis, in English, and the arbitrator's decision will be final and binding. The arbitrator may award the same remedies that a court could award.

Class Action Waiver

You and Kweli agree that each may bring claims against the other only in your individual capacity, and not as a plaintiff or class member in any purported class, consolidated, or representative proceeding. The arbitrator may not consolidate more than one person's claims and may not preside over any form of a class or representative proceeding.

Small Claims Court Exception

Notwithstanding the above, either party may bring an individual action in small claims court for disputes within the scope of that court's jurisdiction.

Informal Resolution First

Before initiating arbitration, we encourage you to contact us at support@kweli.app to resolve the issue informally. Most concerns can be resolved within 30 days through direct communication.

Governing Law

These Terms of Service are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States, without regard to its conflict of law principles.

By using Kweli, you agree to submit to the jurisdiction of the applicable courts and waive any objections to venue or inconvenient forum.
